CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD -EDPUZZLE

Hello everyone, following the last activity , I have made an e-puzzle about a video devoted for Secondary Education students, in order to learn how Christmas is celebrated all over the world.

CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD

I hope you will like it , and I wish you a happy holidays and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!

REVISION OF BLOGS

Hello everyone, in this task we are checking and giving an opinion about different language learning blogs.

Firstly, I could like to mention that visually I really like the colors that she has chosen for the blog but maybe use lighter colors will make the reading part easier.

In relation to the organization, I find difficulty on discovering the different post on the blog, so maybe I would introduce some tags in the posts in case the posts of the  blog could be more organized.

In the end, talking about the content, I find really interesting how Isabel gave many resources and activities devoted to young learners.

This second blog is so visual and attractive for the reader, even so the letter font makes it quite difficult when you want to read a long post.

Related to the content, I find it so interesting because we can find many resources devoted to teenagers students and really engaging. On the other hand, in relation to the Time Toast activity I will choose another person not Shakespeare, in order to make the activity more motivating for the students.

In the end, I would like to say that visually the blog is really good and also the content.

OUR VILLAGE-GENIAL.LY

“OUR VILLAGE -FRAILES”

Along with the e-Twinning program we are carrying out in our school, we are going to show our Polish friends how is our village and encourage them to come and visit it .

The plan of this project is presented as follows:

  • FIRST STEP:

We need to contextualize the situation to the students and make them aware of the task we need to carry out and how we are going to develop it. We will present vocabulary related to the city, but not of every city but our. We will walk around our village in order to see which shops are and if we now the vocabulary of them.

Also it is necessary to design a map in order to put all the important places to be located.

  • SECOND STEP

Introduce the grammar structures will be used, in this case we will need present simple and past simple (in order to talk and teach something about our village’s history). We will develop the map by which the directions and imperative form will be practiced.

  • THIRD STEP

By groups of 4 we will develop a research about the most important and interesting places in Frailes. Once we have all the information, we will develop a draft about all the information that we will introduce in our presentation.

  • FOURTH STEP

Using our weekly ICT lesson we will develop through the time our presentation based on the draft we have made in our notebook but also in the information we have found on Internet.

  • FIFTH STEP

Before uploading our presentation to Twinspace, we will see them in the classroom and give feedback to the groups in order to encourage them to improve their job and to congratulate them for the effort they have made.

COMMENT ON HOW DECISIONS WERE TAKEN AS TO THE GROUPING OF STUDENTS AND TIMINGS OF THE PROJECT.

The project will be developed by groups of 4 ,in this case all the labor of research, writing and creating the presentation will be divided .Also they will learn how to take decisions and deal with the possible disagreement that can appear along the process.

A SAMPLE OF ANY ADDITIONAL MATERIALS YOU USED (HANDOUTS, PROJECT PLANNERS ETC.)

We will use leaflet that we will take from the Town Hall, maps of the village, worksheets, schedules but also information from the tourism information and from Internet.

LASTLY, DO NOT FORGET TO REFLECT ON HOW THE USE OF THE TOOL HAS OPTIMIZED YOUR STUDENTS’ LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND HAS HELPED YOU ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES. WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING.

The project was very engaging for the students, they felt comfortable about the task because they were talk about something that they really know.

In this case, it was difficult because the students do not feel confident to talk in public or ask about leaflet or information in places such as Town Hall or Tourist Information Point. Also the use of grammar structures such as past simple make them feel frustrated because of the verbs. They do not find a lot of information about their village so that make it even more difficult for them but also give more context to the realization of the task.

GUESS WHO? STORYJUMPER

https://www.storyjumper.com/book/read/95380756

How did you organize the groups?

The task was develop to 6th grade students.Along this task we have been organized into groups of 4 in order to make the activities easier and enjoyable for the students, but each student have made its own description.

What was the sequence of tasks that you followed to get to the final product?

The Storyjumper is the final product of a Project developed along all the first trimester, we have been learning vocabulary about physical apperance, clothes and also checking present simple, past simple and adverbs of frequency.

The order was:

First of all, the acquisition of the vocabulary in order to make our students able to develop and writ a description about themselves.

After that w e have been checking another people descriptions such as famous people or their relatives.

Once we have learnt the structure we introduced  grammar structures , such as presente simple, past simple. The use of adverbers of frequency have been introduced along the clothes’ topic  and the seasons of the year.

Once we had clear in our mind how is a description’s structure and all the vocabulary we need.We have written our description in our notebook in order to check the possible mistakes and also we have made a draft using a relatives’ description ,in order to get familiar with the structure.

The final product have been developed along all the weekly ICT lesson we along all the trimester.

In the last week everyone has been presenting their books in front of the class.

And playing to a big Guess who is ? with all the classroom,.

What were the specific learning objectives for this activity? How did the use of the tool help the learners achieve these objectives?

-To learn vocabulary related to the physical appearance and clothes.

-To learn the grammar structures related to present simple and past simple.

-To improve the writing skills in the 6th grade students.

-To develop creativity and imagination.

-To use and ICT tool as stortyjumper.

We have used this tool as a meaningful tool for them in order to develop a final product,in this case we have contextualized the learning process so the students know since the first moment what are they learning for.

In what ways was creativity and the use of imagination encouraged in your students?

Students have started by an idea, a goal and they have made a long journey in order to know how to develop that idea (description) and we have introduced it  a game.

In this case we have introduced a relaxed atmosphere for the students in an activity such as writing which have been always frustrated for them.

What did your students enjoy most / least about this activity?

The have really enjoyed making the storyjumper, investigating, watching tutorials and also making it so difficult in order to their classmates not to discover who was the description about.

On the other hand, students still fell frustrated about the writing skill,so more drafts and examples about descriptions will be given to them in order to facilitate the process.

What would you change next time?

Next time I think I will develop the project in the second trimester because  it is really time consuming and the Storyjumper tool need some time for the student to get familiar to.

How were the finished projects shared with the rest of the class?

We have shared them in the interactive blackboard, each student have a paper with the number of presentation and the student he/she thinks who was the one of the description. So at the end, we have checked wo have guessed all the description and receive a diploma.

What opportunities were there for students to co-evaluate and discuss the learning experience with each other?

The have been working in pairs, groups and indivually. They have been made activities such a picture dictionary, grammas exercises and group description so they have the opportunity to work all together.

At the end, the presentations’ each one make a small comment about the presentation in order to give a feedback to their classmates.

EDPUZZLE AS AN AMAZING RESOURCE TO WORK LISTENING SKILLS

HOW HEALTHY ARE YOU ? LET’S DISCOVER IT

https://edpuzzle.com/media/5fd7a3d51e6c94410d464261

·      REASON FOR MY CHOICE OF VIDEO.

Nowadays in my 6th grade class we are learning about food, healthy and unhealthy habits. In relation to that, I find it so interesting to introduce his new resource in order to make them aware of the importance of developing healthy habits in their daily life.

·      OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON:

-To review topic’s vocabulary.

-To reflect about our daily habits.

-To realize about the unhealthy habits, we have in our life.

-To discover different ways of developing a healthy lifestyle.

·      HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THE LEARNING OBJECTIVE?

First of all the students have reflect at home about their habits, also they have done a questionnaire to their relatives in order to have a general idea about the habits that people that surrounded them have.

Once they have investigated that, we had a debate in the classroom about all the information they have brought and the last part of the lesson was devoted to watch the video, answer the questions and establish general conclusions about our habits.

·      HIGH POINTS IF THE EXPERIENCE

-They really enjoy investigating and asking their relatives.

-They get interested in the topic because it is close to their reality.

-The really enjoyed the resource because it makes them keep the attention on the video because of the questions that I create on it.

·      WEAK POINTS OF THE EXPERIENCE

-The speed of the video was too fast for some of the students.

-Many of them do not care about healthy or unhealthy habits.

-The questions were too long to read along the video.

TIME TOAST-BARACK OBAMA

TIME TOAST NOBEL PEACE PRIZE-BARACK OBAMA

  • The learning objectives of the activity

-To celebrate the Peace Day (31st of January) by knowing a nobel peace prize winner.

-To practice past simple and past perfect.

-To get to know an important politician of the American culture.

  • The advantages of using TimeToast for this activity.

-The students can see in a visual and dynamic way the biography of an important person.

-They can establish which kind of information they want to put or not.

-The practice reading in a scanning way because they have too much information on Internet and they have to read and select the most relevant to be included In their timelines.

-They are reading, and sharing information in a meaningful way and we are  avoiding  traditional reading activities.

  • The steps you followed to set up the activity

1.Present why we celebrate the Peace Day.

2.Brainstorming about what is peace and which values we need to transmit.

3.Search information about some of the nobel peace prize winners.

4.Analyse information about the life and career of Barack Obama.

5.Make a debate about why he received the nobel peace prize.

6.Create out timeline about his life.

7.Share the timeline with the students.

8.Make a discussion about the different information each group has selected to put in the timeline.

9-Create a huge timeline joining all the information we have found within all the group work.

  • Any problems and how you and the students solved them.

Some students do not feel encourage with the activity, in relation to that I gave them an important role in the group, such as content supervisor ,or timeline designer, depending on their strengths in the subject.

  • The students’ reaction – how did they feel about using TimeToast to complete the task?

At first they feel excited about using a new resource in the classroom, but when they started using it , they felt frustration because sometimes they did not know how to make a timeline, o add a new event. At the end of the activity they feel happy and proud of the effort they have made.

  • Some things that you would change / improve next time.

-Try to find a Spanish character related to their reality and not an American one.

-Make a timeline takes time and maybe it is necessary more lessons.

-Help them in knowing how to filter all the information they find in Internet because sometimes they felt overwhelmed.

  • At least 3 ways that the use of TimeToast helped you achieve your learning objectives

-In the first lessons of the year, we can use it as an “ALL ABOUT ME “ activity in which students present themselves.

-Also it is a good tool to practice grammar  because the do no have to read or make exercise, but writing and seeing that structures in magazines or newspapers.

-They read and they don’t realize they are reading,so we are making the reading moment a contextualized and memorable acitivity for them.

REFLECT OF READING HABITS

Reading can be defined as the process of interpreting different symbols and giving them a meaning in a specific context.

I have chosen two different pictures that from my point of view reflect different types of reading.

In the first picture the process of reading is produced in a relaxed atmosphere in a familiar context and also with a family member. In this kind of reading, the pressure is low and the child is enjoying because he/she does not feel the necessity of making a reading aloud perfect process.
In addition it is possible that it was the child the one who chooses the kind of book he/she wants to read, so he /she is reading also for pleasure.

On the contrary, in the second picture, we can find a different context, an academic one , every child is reading the same book which means that it cannot be interesting for all of them.
Also, if they read aloud the child feels the pressure of everyone hearing and not making mistakes.
Even the atmosphere is not as relaxed as in the previous one they can feel engage by the teacher and the rest of the classmates.

In my case I enjoy reading different kind of books in both languages, in Spanish I love reading novels but in English I really enjoy reading comedies and that kind of books in which I don’t need a full attention. Why is that?
Reading on my L1 does not involve a real difficulty ,but when I read in L2 and the book make me feel lost or it is not understandable I start feeling the same frustration as when a child cannot understand a simple statement in the foreign language.

In that case I find more difficulty on reading on digital format when reading in English, because I get distracted so easily, but on the contrary I love reading on digital format in Spanish.

In my opinion, all of that is related to that I read for pleasure, to relax and forget about problems after a hard day, that is why I use exciting and easy reading books in order to avoid the stress.
